What is coaching?
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.
The client presents an objective to be achieved and the sessions are designed to accompany and support them in achieving this goal. Through questioning, we work from the present towards the future. The work carried out in the sessions focuses in setting goals, creating outcomes, managing personal change and develop more self-confidence. It also helps to reduce internal blockages.
The sessions take place within a framework of respect and confidentiality, in a climate of trust and openness. It is a safe space to talk, think and feel, without judgement and without limitations.
The work done facilitates a change in perspective, to see things differently and above all to understand others better and to learn more about ourselves. Most of all, it helps to develop the potential we have within ourselves, to release hidden treasures.
What coaching is not:
- It is not a miracle solution that falls from heaven and solves all the problems: the whole journey requires commitment and accountability.
- It is not counselling: each person is the expert in their own life, coaching elicits client-generated solutions and strategies.
- It is not psychoanalysis: we are not going to dwell on childhood traumas or past blockages, we are going to find a way to identify them, get around them and overcome them.
Who is coaching for?
- It is aimed at all people who want to achieve their goals quickly, who want to feel better about their lives, or who want to change their lives.
- The cases to be dealt with can be in the field of professional or personal life. Some examples are expanding career opportunities, the search for a new occupation after unemployment, support in choosing an education or training course, etc.
- On a personal level it can be for example time management, manage work/life balance, improve communication skills, stress management, increase self-esteem/self-confidence.
Topics usually covered in a coaching session:
- Working on goal setting
- Outlining your life path, strengths, and weaknesses analysis
- Work on your values system
- Guided reflection on, for example, self-confidence, self-esteem, self-image, self-knowledge, time management or career transition
- Support along the path of change - motivation / overcoming obstacles / integration
- Projecting into the future: vision and personal project and development of tools for success
- Anxiety and stress management
